NAMI Walk

On May 11, Suzanne M. White, MA, OTR/L, FAOTA, Clinical Associate Professor, led a team of Downstate's CHRP OT students and Kyra Doumlele, COM 2020, led a team from the Downstate Psychiatry Student Interest Group in the 13th Annual NAMI-NYC walk at South Street Seaport. Thousands of people came out to raise funds and promote awareness, celebrate recovery, and fight the stigma of mental illness. Downstate staffed stations at which students provided health screenings supervised by Betty Jung, RN, Coordinator of the Center for Health and Wellness, and provided valuable information and resources. Special thanks to Monica Sturge, who graciously helped sponsor a booth for SUNY Downstate this year, and to Mabel Martinez-Almonte, MA, MHC, OTR/L, Behavior Health Clinician, for her unwavering support.
